Repair of Involutional Ectropion and Entropion: Transconjunctival Surgery of the Lower Lid Retractors
نویسنده
چکیده
■ Vertical deviation of the orbicularis muscle plays the most important role in entropion and ectropion formation. ■ The orbicularis muscle is controlled by translamellar connections between the lower lid retractors and the anterior lamella. ■ In ectropion, retractor laxity causes an absence of the angle at the lacrimal punctum. ■ In entropion, retractor laxity produces a loss of the lid crease. ■ Ectropion and entropion can be corrected by transconjunctival advancement of the retractors without excision of tissue. ■ Horizontal lid laxity also requires correction.

PURPOSE To compare surgical outcomes of internal (transconjunctival) vs external (subciliary) involutional entropion repair. DESIGN Retrospective, consecutive case series. METHODS Electronic medical record review of all patients who underwent involutional entropion repair at the Jules Stein Eye Institute over a 4-year period was performed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Anatomic and functional suc...

INTRODUCTION Involutional entropion is a common lid malposition problem in the Chinese geriatric population. The major contributing factors of involutional entropion include disinsertion of the lower lid retractors and horizontal lid laxity. The combined procedure (lower lid retractor repair and lateral tarsal strip procedure) is a useful technique that tackles both the horizontal and vertical ...

BACKGROUND Lower lid involutional entropion is a common eyelid pathology affecting the elderly population. Most of the reported surgical techniques are mainly based on a lateral tarsal strip anchored to the orbital rim. OBJECTIVES To report the surgical outcome using a simple single-stitch lateral wedge technique to repair involutional lower entropion. METHODS This single-surgeon, retrospec...

Ectropion is a malposition of eyelid in which the eyelid is pulled away from the globe. It is classified in the following categories: congenital and acquired, which may be involutional, paralytic, cicatricial and mechanical. Depending on the etiology and the predominant location of ectropion, a variety of surgical techniques are available for its correction. In this retrospective study, 52 eyel...
متن کاملThe Management of Involutional Lower Lid Ectropion
Lower lid ectropion is caused by the imbalance of the lower lid protractors and retractors. Laxity of the canthal tendons will affect the degree and location of the ectropion as well as the surgical decisions for its repair. A schema for the individualization of surgical correction as well as a new application of temporalis muscle transfer is presented.
